VAH-1, known as the "Smokin' Tigers," was the U.S. Navy's first heavy attack squadron, established in 1955. The squadron initially flew the A-3 Skywarrior, also known as the "Whale," which was the largest and heaviest aircraft to operate from an aircraft carrier.
